 PREDICTION
Back to Full Blog

In light of everything we've seen in the st couple of days I'm gonna go out on a limb and make a prediction:

VP Cheney will resign this month, Bush will appoint Secretary Rice to take his place paving the way for her presidential run in 2008.

I've been thinking that this would be a move by the administration since George W was re-elected. However my original prediction was that Cheney would resign due to health issues. The Republicans need to make such a move in order to "tee-up" a strong candidate in the next presidential election.

Also, it needs to happen before mid-term elections just in case the Senate sees a change in leadership.

We'll see...

Are you saying you think that this would have happened regardless of the accident? Come on.. who is more charismatic than Cheney?

Yes, yes I am. If I was Karl Rove I'd be looking for some job security...

Interesting theory, NV. I could see conservative America voting her in, but I seriously doubt Cheney would resign over this. Health reasons would be MUCH more viable.--Mike

I agree with Winston on this. You also have to consider that she has said at least 1000 times that she' not going to run. I know that doesn't mean she won't but is it something you'd say if you're positive you will?

My prediction doesn't assume that she'll get elected, though I think she would do well - even in conservative America.

Consider the poliical pendulum theory. We were on the left with Clinton for 2 terms, now we're on the right with Bush 2 terms. History shows that in '08 America could settle in the middle. Middle America would elect a black female.

My prediction does assume that the republicans are thinking about '08 and will be looking for ways to demonstrate to the electorate that their not all right wing unethical nutjobs. Condi would do that.

And yes I know about assumptions...

Hello! I think you've made a very interesting prediction here. I haven't really considered your idea before now but I agree that it does make sense. I told my husband the other day that if Cheney did resign for some reason, it wouldn't be because of the accident itself but because of what this whole scenario and the press are doing to his heart. Good post here!
